J. Robert Oppenheimer
Oppenheimer was a theoretical physicist and professor at the University of California Berkeley before the war. In September of 1942, Brigadier General Groves selected Oppenheimer to lead the secret weapons base at Los Alamos, New Mexico. Known as one of the "fathers of the atomic bomb," Oppenheimer's group worked on creating the uranium bomb "little boy," a plutonium bomb "thin man," and the Trinity Test. Oppenheimer was one of the leading members of the Manhattan Project and received the Medal of Honor from Harry S. Truman for his service.
